REVEALED: Coldplay’s Chris Martin is leaving the 33-bedroom mansion he once shared with Gwyneth Paltrow in Primrose Hill and makes a £7m profit

  • The 33-room mansion is made up of two properties that have been combined into one
  • The incredible house has been sold to an Asian businessman for £12.5million
  • Martin retained the property after splitting from actress Paltrow in 2014

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has sold the mansion he once shared with Gwyneth Paltrow for a staggering £7million profit, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The sprawling 33-room house in North London’s Primrose Hill area is made up of two properties rolled into one.

The couple bought the first for £2.5million from Kate Winslet and her then-husband Sam Mendes in May 2004. They then bought the house next door for £3million in 2009, before to carry out major construction work.

Now the combined home, complete with eight bathrooms and a gym, has been sold to an Asian businessman for £12.5million.

The property was Martin and Paltrow’s marital home until they announced their “consciously estranged” split in 2014. Although he moved to California, where he now lives with the Fifty Shades Of Gray actress, Dakota Johnson, Martin retained ownership.

A source said: “Chris got the house in the divorce but kept it even though he now lives in Malibu. It may have been a connection to the UK for him as his life is very American , but he certainly managed to make a decent profit from it.

The couple built eight rooms in the basement, six on the upper level and five on the first floor. Planning documents also showed eight rooms on the second floor. They added a pair of two-storey extensions, which provided additional space for a gym, a mudroom, three more bedrooms, an additional bathroom and space for a garden and play area for their daughter. Apple, born shortly after buying the first property, and her younger brother Moses, now 16.

The house is right next to James Corden’s former home, which he sold last year.

Martin and Paltrow moved to Los Angeles in 2013, shortly before announcing their separation. A year later, they filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The Coldplay star bought a three-bedroom ranch in Malibu in May 2019 for £4.25million but sold it in January 2021 when he bought another house in the area for £11.1million pound sterling.

Paltrow, 49, now lives in Montecito, Calif., with her second husband Brad Falchuk.

The couple also own a home in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood and a vacation home in the Hamptons, the trendy resort town for wealthy New Yorkers where they wed in 2018.

Martin and Paltrow remain close and last week attended the graduation of 18-year-old Apple in Santa Monica.

Writing on Instagram, Paltrow said: “Proud don’t cover it, my heart swells with feeling I can’t put into words.”

The exodus from a prominent enclave

It was once the hip north London enclave whose A-list residents and most revelers included Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Liam and Noel Gallagher and Kate Moss – but Primrose Hill has suffered a star exodus in recent years .

Ms Frost put the six-bedroom home she once shared with Law – and which has hosted famous and rowdy celebrity parties – on the market for £6million three years ago.

Ms Moss left London for the Cotswolds earlier this year while Meg Mathews, the former wife of Noel Gallagher, moved to Cornwall.

They sold their home, Supernova Heights, to toilet roll heiress Davinia Taylor, but she has since moved to Marbella. Comedian David Walliams bought it from him for £3.25million in 2005 and sold it for £5.3million in 2019.

Liam Gallagher has also left Primrose Hill and now lives in Highgate, another north London area, with his fiancée Debbie Gwyther.

Model Pearl Lowe and her husband, Supergrass star Danny Boffey, were also members of the Primrose Hill set but have since moved to rural Somerset.

Former residents of Primrose Hill, each commemorated with an English Heritage blue plaque, include historian AJP Taylor, revolutionary socialist Friedrich Engels, Proms founder Henry Wood and poet Sylvia Plath.
