Hy-Vee hosts virtual events with a focus on children’s health

To help prepare children’s minds and bodies for the new school year, Hy-Vee’s team of registered nutritionists will host free virtual events in August that will focus on children’s health through a variety of children’s programs. Free events include virtual kids’ cooking classes, store tours, and live Q&A to prepare customers with recipes and tips for starting school.

The virtual events include:

Little cooks in the Hy-Vee kitchen: Hy-Vee’s nutritionists teach children ages 3 to 7 how to prepare healthy snacks for back to school. Nutritionists will demonstrate simple follow-up recipes like three-ingredient monster cookie dough and strawberry ice cream on a stick to help young children feel comfortable and active in the kitchen.

Junior chefs in the Hy-Vee Kitchen: Nutritionists will focus on enhancing the cooking skills of young customers and helping them maintain a healthy relationship with food. Children ages 8 and up learn how to prepare healthy meals and how to make trail mix biscuits and strawberry energy nibbles.

Power My Plate with Hy-Vee Dieticians: In collaboration with the Hy-Vee KidsFit team, Hy-Vee dieters will host a four-week nutritional training series for all teachers enrolled in the Hy-Vee KidsFit School Wellness Club. The series explores a balanced diet that includes all food groups, rethinking sugary drinks, choosing healthy after-school snacks, and encouraging fun exercise. Teachers receive four weeks of nutrition education videos, followed by worksheets and games that can be worked on in the classroom.

Love your lunch: Hy-Vee dieters provide tips to clients on how to brush up on their lunch break before going back to school. Customers who sign up for this course will receive two weeks of packed lunch ideas for children or adults and a shopping list of dietitians’ favorite products.

In addition, the dealer organizes a virtual one Children’s food group tour during the Hy-Vee dietitians will teach children and families how to include the five food groups, what a balanced diet looks like, why a balanced diet is important, and how to make grocery shopping nutritious and fun. During the tour, customers receive shopping tips and product recommendations on how to supply their shopping cart with more nutrients. The tours are also available in Spanish.
