KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Thousands of people are struggling to pay their rent, but new help is on the way in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Rental Assistance Center opens Friday. It helps people who need a little help with renting to fill out emergency funding applications. The city said there were people who applied for the first round of aid, but their applications were denied because the forms were not filled out correctly.

“I know that for the people who need the money most, it won’t come out fast enough and we understand it and that’s why we started this aid center because it will help us to help those who need this money most, important paperwork to get done so we can expedite the process, ”said John Baccala, spokesman for Kansas City, Mo.

Kansas City said it received national recognition for distributing nearly $ 11 million in federal funds. It said it helped 2,400 households with that money.

The Kansas City Emergency Response Center is located at 4400 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. You need to make an appointment to get help.

If you need assistance, here are some things you should know about the Emergency Rental Service Center:

  • Help is only available by appointment on September 17th

  • From Monday, September 20, the center will only be open by appointment at the following times:
    • Monday and Wednesday
      • Open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.

      • Open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
      • Call (816) 513-4501 to schedule an appointment

When you have made an appointment, bring the following information with you:

  • ID (driver’s license, birth certificate, etc.)
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of income (pay slip, W-2 forms, 2020 tax return)
  • Requirement documentation
